Arkansas Governor Cites ‘Good Catch’ Work in Proclamation of 2018 Patient Safety Week
Gov. Asa Hutchinson issued an official proclamation declaring March 11 – 17, 2018, Patient Safety Awareness Week in Arkansas. The event coincides with National Patient Safety Awareness Week, promoted by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)/National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF).
While IHI/NPSF’s United for Patient Safety campaign, which focuses on the reduction of preventable harm, is an ongoing effort, Patient Safety Awareness Week serves as an annual culmination of the effort and offers opportunity for the public and those working in healthcare to celebrate progress and acknowledge the need for continued learning and sharing across the industry.
In his official proclamation, Gov. Hutchinson specifically mentioned efforts in the last year by 43 Arkansas hospitals actively working to “significantly increase near miss reporting, reveal process and system vulnerabilities, and develop proactive data-driven improvement activities through participation in American Data Network PSO’s Good Catch Campaign, designed to foster a growing culture of safety in hospitals by encouraging the recognition and reporting of patient safety risk.”
