IHIThe Institute for Healthcare Improvement will offer its next WIHI broadcast, Bright Spots for Patients with Complex Needs, on Thursday, March 27 from 2 – 3 p.m. ET.

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, five percent of Americans contribute to half of our country’s healthcare costs, but some industry leaders believe it doesn’t have to be that way.  Ever since, patient safety expert Atul Gawande, MD, illustrated the need for a heightened focus on repeat patients he labeled  “hot spotters” in a 2011 article penned for The New Yorker, efforts to address the needs of populations with the most costly and complicated illnesses have intensified.

On March 27, IHI will touch base with a panel of individuals who have been spearheading endeavors to better support and care for these complex patients with multiple illnesses. Guest presenters will include:

  • John W. Whittington, MD –  Lead Faculty, Triple Aim Initiative, Institute for Healthcare Improvement
  • Crispin Kontz – Manager, Support and Clinical Systems, Alberta Health Services (Edmonton, Canada)
  • Catherine Craig, MPA, MSW – Independent Consultant, Community Health Transformation, Care Coordination
  • Ann Lindsay, MD – Co-Director, Stanford Coordinated Care, Stanford Hospitals and Clinics
