AHRQ Revises Proposed Tools to Aid Consumers in Reporting Errors
According to a notice published in the Federal Register, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has revised its proposed information collection project, “A Prototype Consumer Reporting System for Patient Safety Events.”
The agency said it has made substantial changes to its proposed data collection tools based on commentary received since the project was introduced last fall. Central to the project is a form intended for use by patients, consumers, family members and other care givers to voluntarily report medical errors via telephone or internet.
In addition, AHRQ already has contracted with RAND Corporation to perform a pilot test of the instrument to determine its ease of use as well as its potential for providing reliable information that can be used to improve patient safety.
AHRQ will accept comments on the revisions through July 8, 2013.
